Most Frequently asked questions ...

Are botox and filler the same thing?

No! Botox is a neurotoxin that is used to relax facial muscles to smooth out and further prevent lines and wrinkles caused by facial movements. Filler is hyaluronic acid in gel form that is used to “fill in” deep static lines (lines not caused by movement), enhance features like liips, chins, undereye hollows etc…

How often do I need to come for neurotoxin (Botox/Dysport)?

Typically, we suggest maintenance appointments every 3 months to ensure that the full effect of the neurotoxin doesn’t wear off. Everyone metabolizes differently and the result can begin to last longer over time as the muscles atrophy(shrink).

What kind of neurotoxin and fillers do we use at SQIN Med?

There are MANY, MANY different brands of neurotoxins and fillers on the market today. We mainly use Restylane products at SQIN Med – this includes Dysport as our mainly used Neurotoxin. We do also use Allergan/Juvederm – neurotoxin Botox.

What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are both neurotoxins – simply different brands. Botox is a brand from Allergan and Dysport is from Galderma. Both are great neurotoxin agents – the main differences to note; Botox is more widely used for medical treatments such as; hyperhidrosis(excessive sweating), migraine prevention, TMJ etc… Dysport was made to be geared more aesthetic purposes such as; frown lines on the face, crows feet, forehead lines etc…

What are PDO Thread lifts?

PDO Thread lifts are one of the most popular medical aesthetic treatments being offered right now! They use barbed, dissolvable sutures to tighten and lift the fat pads and skin without downtime or surgery.

Are PDO Thread lifts safe?

Most definitely! PDO threads may be newer to Canada but have been used for many, many years in other countries around for the world for non surgical face lifting and tightening. The threads are made of Poly Diaxanone – which is derived of starch- the same as a dissolvable suture used in the health care field. As long as these treatments are being done by a trained/certified and experienced health care provider, PDO Threads have very minimal risks and give amazing results!

Do PDO Thread treatments hurt?

These treatments look invasive and the videos can be very intimidating, but PDO Thread treatments actually have VERY minimal discomfort. We use a variety of topical numbing, injectable lidocaine and even Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) to ensure our clients have the most comfortable experience!

What areas can be treated with PDO Threads? Who is an ideal candidate for a thread lift?

Whether we are using barbed, lifting cogs to lift the upper face and reduce smile lines, slim and contour the face and smooth the under eyes, or to tighten the jawline, add definition, lift and tighten the neck, or to enhance the brow (fox eye/brow lift), non surgical nose contouring, stomach, knee, arm tightening – the list goes on! There are also smooth/mono thread which can be used for collagen reduction, scarring, acne scarring, lifting, adding volume, smoothing and so much more!
